Grandmother's Cosmic Flower Garden

13 inches X 15 inches. Hand-sewn using the English paper piecing method with 1/4-inch hexagons and appliqued to the backgound, “quilted” with size 11 Japanese glass seed beads. Award for Best Use of a Traditional Pattern in a mid-1990s Fidalgo Island Quilters challenge.

Abstract Autumn Wind

15 inches X 20 inches. Machine-sewn on paper foundations using commercial and hand-dyed fabrics I made. Machine-quilted.

Dale's Chess Quilt

A bit larger than king bed size. Mostly machine-sewn. Hand-tied. The center chessboard consists of 512 pieces of fabric (not including the white squares), all of them a different print, in a gradation of color from olive green in the lower left-hand corner diagonally up to red-violet in the upper right-hand corner. The chessmen were sewn on paper foundations I designed. The Gothic letters “D” and “W” were machine-appliqued.

Mariner's Quilt

Approximately double bed size. Machine sewn. Hand-tied. The 24 Mariner's Compass blocks were machine-sewn on paper foundations, all using the same pattern; placement of color determined how the blocks would look. Backed by commerically-made Mariner's Major League Baseball-licensed team logo fabrics. Made for Dale's parents.

75th Diamond Anniverary Quilt

Double bed size. Machine sewn. Hand-tied. In the center is a color photo transfer onto fabric of Dale's maternal grandparents on their wedding day. Surrounding their picture in the white blocks (but impossible to see in this photo) are handwritten sentiments and congratulations of all their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren I could get to cooperate with the project.

Patriotic Quilt

A work-in-progress. Hand-pieced using the English paper-piecing method. Inspired by the tragedy of 9/11, most of the fabrics are prints with a USA theme.

Made Ya Laugh!

Double bed size. Machine sewn and quilted. This is the same block; the placement of fabrics determined how each would look. Made in ten days using a rather haphazard quilt-as-you-go method I wouldn't recommend for a “serious” quilt, but this one was intended to be silly from the outset. Made for our friends Warren and his late wife Linda.
