CHARITY QUILTS
Please be patient; pictures may load slowly!
With the help of Aesop my sewing machine (so named because of these icons on the speed control):

and delving into my own fabric stash plus liberally adding to it from other sources (I can't help it...I'm addicted to fabric!), I keep busy making comfort quilts (measuring about 36” X 44”) for charities such as Quilts For Kids and local nursing homes. Many of these are scrap quilts; others have a specific theme. These look a bit crooked because they were being held up by my husband; they're wrinkled from being folded. Pictures will be updated as these get quilted...which may be months from now until I can save enough money to buy the batting.

Good Luck Care Bear (front and back) – Quilt top and back waiting to be quilted. This one is my favorite. I used a panel intended as a pillow toy, fused each picture to its background, then machine satin-stitched it down for durability.

Care Bears I – A quilt top waiting to be quilted.

Care Bears II – A quilt top waiting to be quilted.

Care Bears III – A quilt top waiting to be quilted.

Pink and Green Flowers I – A quilt top in need of borders and waiting to be quilted.

Pink and Green Flowers II – A quilt top in need of an outer border and waiting to be quilted.

Pink and Green Flowers III – A quilt top in need of borders and waiting to be quilted.

Flowers and Butterflies I – A quilt top in need of an outer border and waiting to be quilted.

Flowers and Butterflies II – A quilt top waiting to be quilted.

Red, White and Blue I – Quilt top in need of borders and waiting to be quilted.

Motorcycles I and Motorcycles II – Nearly identical quilt tops waiting to be quilted. I had enough scraps left over from the motorcycles fabric I used to make my husband a shirt years ago.

Baseball I and Baseball II – Nearly identical quilt tops waiting to be quilted.

Cowboy I and Cowboy II (top row) are identical; Cowboy III (bottom row) is nearly identical. All three waiting to be quilted.

I call this the “Hideous Peas and Carrots Quilt” and I wish to make it perfectly clear that this color combination was not my own! This is the pre-cut kit I received from Quilts For Kids and what got me started on this whole project, after seeing a segment on “Quilting With Nancy” about the organization in September 2011. Whoever put the kit together REALLY liked orange and lime green. Yikes. This comfort quilt is the first quilt larger than a wall hanging that I completely machine-quilted (after years of just piecing and tying bigger quilts). It didn't turn out too badly. Actually, I named this “Rock On” and it's registered on Downy's Touch of Comfort site here . Hopefully, the parents of the child who receives this will add a story of their own there. And hopefully the child will like this color combination.
