We cannot ship books without full payment.
While we run our bookstore exclusively online from our home, we occasionally allow local customers to visit—BY APPOINTMENT ONLY—to pick up books they've ordered so they can save themselves shipping costs. In such cases, cash—in the exact amount charged—is accepted as payment. We will also, in such cases, accept checks or money orders if the total amount due is less than $50.00.
At our discretion, shipments paid for via check or money order in amounts of $50.00 and over will be held until the check or money order fully clears our bank. This may take up to one (1) business week.
We are happy to ship to any address other than the customer's if, for example, the book is a gift.
Once we receive confirmation of an order, we will put books on hold for:
Private individuals – seven (7) calendar days
Libraries – four (4) calendar weeks
Booksellers – two (2) calendar weeks.
When requested by customers to search for books, we charge a finder's fee of 25% of the total order.

The United States Congress passed legislation in August 2008 against merchants and libraries selling or lending children's books published BEFORE 1985 because of POSSIBLE lead content in the inks used to print the books.
Therefore, Treasure Island Books is selling such books as COLLECTOR'S ITEMS ONLY FOR ADULT USE ONLY.
It is the BUYER'S responsibility to supervise the use of such books around children, and Treasure Island Books assumes no legal responsibility thereof.

Invoices are sent to customers via email.
If you wish to have one sent to you via the USPS, please let us know; there is no charge for this service.
We do not have fax capability.
If you wish to have certain information left off of an invoice, (e.g., price if the book is a gift), please let us know.
A copy of the invoice is included in the shipment; if you rather we didn't do this, please let us know.
We provide bookseller discounts on a case-by-case basis.
Booksellers must request the discount.
We reserve the right to request proof that the person making the request is, indeed, a bookseller.

Gift certificates are available any time in $5.00 increments.
Gift certificates are valid for twelve (12) calendar months from the date of issue.
Residual amounts on gift certificates are carried over in six (6) calendar month increments from each use until fully used.
If the gift certificate expires, no refund will be given.
We will provide the buyer a paper gift certificate only.
We do not provide email gift certificates. We feel the recipient may regard it as spam.
If you require a non-valid copy of the gift certificate for your records, please request it.

NSF CHECKS
Non-sufficient funds (NSF) checks will not be redeposited to our bank.
~ ~ ~ IF THE BOOK HAS BEEN SHIPPED AND THE CUSTOMER STILL WANTS THE BOOK ~ ~ ~
We will request the customer to immediately make a cashier's check, money order, Paypal, or Google Check-Out payment to cover all of the following:
Original amount of NSF check
AND
The penalty fee our bank charged us (currently $34.00, subject to change without notice)
AND
Our business' NSF penalty fee of $25.00
Full replacement and penalty fees payment is due within five (5) business days from being notified by us via email.
Failure to comply with our request will result in legal steps being taken including but not limited to reporting the offense to our local police department and the police department of the customer's city.
~ ~ ~ IF THE BOOK HAS BEEN SHIPPED AND THE CUSTOMER DOES NOT WANT THE BOOK ~ ~ ~
We will request the customer to immediately make a cashier's check, money order, Paypal, or Google Check-Out payment to cover all of the following:
The penalty fee our bank charged us (currently $34.00, subject to change without notice)
AND
Our business' NSF penalty fee of $25.00
AND
The restocking fee of 20% of the TOTAL cost of the book(s) (list price PLUS original shipping costs).
AND ALSO
Return the book. Please see Returns and Refunds, below.
Full penalty fees payment is due within five (5) business days from the customer being notified by us via email.

COUNTERFEIT PAYMENTS
Counterfeit checks or money orders submitted to us will result in legal steps being taken including but not limited to reporting the offense to our local police department and the police department of the customer's city.
Counterfeit payments made to Paypal or Google Check-Out will be handled by them.

~ ~ ~ IF YOU DO NOT WANT THE BOOK ~ ~ ~
There is a restocking fee of 20% of the TOTAL cost of the book(s) (list price PLUS original shipping costs) on all returned books that are unwanted by the customer. This amount will be deducted from the total refund amount.
NO REFUNDS will be provided after thirty (30) calendar days from shipment date by us to the customer if we are not notified via email (tibooks@yahoo.com) within ten (10) calender days of receipt by the customer that a refund is requested.
All return shipping costs are the customer's responsibility when returning unwanted books.
We ask that we receive the unwanted book within fifteen (15) calendar days of receipt by the customer; otherwise, no refund will be provided.
Books must be received by us in the exact condition in which we shipped them.
Please securely wrap the book for return shipping.
It is strongly recommended that return unwanted book shipments be accompanied by a USPS Delivery Confirmation tag AND USPS insurance. These shipping costs are the customer's responsibility.
Treasure Island Books will not be held responsible if a book is sent back to us without a USPS Delivery Confirmation tag or USPS insurance and it does not arrive at our address.
If the book is sent back to us without USPS insurance and it arrives at our address in damaged condition,
no refund will be provided nor will Treasure Island Books be held responsible for any damages incurred
during return shipping.
Refunds will be made to customers within thirty (30) calendar days of receipt by us of the returned book.
~ ~ ~ IF THE BOOK WAS INSURED AND ARRIVED DAMAGED ~ ~ ~
PLEASE notify us via email (tibooks@yahoo.com) within ten (10) calendar days of receipt by the customer that the book arrived damaged and a refund is requested.
Books shipped by us with insurance which arrived in damaged condition at the customer's address will be 100% refunded for both the list price and all original shipping costs incurred by the customer. Such customers do not need to return the book to us.
We ask that we receive the damaged book within fifteen (15) calendar days of receipt by the customer if the customer does not wish to keep it.
NO REFUNDS will be provided after thirty (30) calendar days from shipment date by us to the customer unless the book was insured and the customer notified us of its damage within ten (10) calendar days
of receipt by the customer.
It is strongly recommended that return shipments be accompanied by a USPS Delivery Confirmation tag
AND USPS insurance.
Return shipping costs for books shipped back to us with USPS insurance when we insured the original shipment will be 100% refunded if the book arrived damaged at our address ONLY if the customer filled out the USPS insurance form AND return address label reciting Treasure Island Books as the SHIPPER as well as the addressee.
PLEASE - the customer must provide us with the USPS insurance form number! In other words, customers should NOT use their own address as the SHIPPER (return address) when returning books to us with USPS insurance.
Otherwise, the customer is responsible for filing the USPS insurance claim to recoup return shipping costs and book value, and all return shipping costs are at the customer's expense.
Treasure Island Books will not be held responsible if a book is sent back to us without a USPS Delivery Confirmation tag or USPS insurance and it does not arrive at our address.
If the book is sent back to us without USPS insurance and it arrives at our address in damaged condition, no refund will be provided nor will Treasure Island Books be held responsible for any damages incurred during return shipping.
Refunds will be made to customers within thirty (30) calendar days of receipt by us of the returned book or,
in the case of insured shipments to customers who wish to keep the book, when the customer informs us of the damage.
