We do not ship books without full payment.

While we run our bookstore exclusively online from our home, we occasionally allow local customers to visit—BY APPOINTMENT ONLY—to pick up books they've ordered so they can save themselves shipping costs. In such cases, cash—in the exact amount charged—is accepted as payment. We will also, in such cases, accept checks or money orders if the total amount due is less than $10.00. A written receipt will be provided.

We reserve the right to ascertain that any check or money order clear our bank before shipment. This may take up to one (1) business week.

We are happy to ship to any address other than the customer's.

Once we receive confirmation of an order, we will put books on hold for:

Individuals – seven (7) business days

Libraries – four (4) business weeks

Booksellers – two (2) business weeks.

When requested by customers to search for books, we charge a finder's fee of 15% of the total order, not including shipping costs.

Invoices are sent to customers via email or snail mail. If requested, we will also phone the customer with the payment information.

We do not have fax capability.

If you wish to have certain information left off of an invoice, (e.g., price if the book is a gift), please let us know.

A copy of the invoice is included in the shipment; if you rather we didn't do this, please let us know.

We provide bookseller discounts on a case-by-case basis.

Booksellers must request the discount.

We reserve the right to request proof that the person making the request is, indeed, a fellow bookseller.

Gift certificates are available at any time in any amount.

Gift certificates are valid for twelve (12) calendar months from the date of issue.

Residual amounts on gift certificates are considered expired and void after the twelve calendar month period has elapsed.

If the gift certificate expires, no refund will be given.

We will provide the buyer a paper gift certificate only.

We do not provide email gift certificates. We feel the recipient may regard it as spam.

If you require a non-valid copy of the gift certificate for your records, please request it.

We accept the following payment options:

We are able to accept credit card payments ONLY via Paypal.

If you wish us to send you a Paypal invoice, please let us know on your order form.

You DO NOT need a Paypal account to send money via Paypal! For full information, please visit Paypal.com.

We do not accept cash.

Please make your payment in the exact amount charged.

Under-payments cannot be processed and will delay shipment of your books.

Over-payments will be processed but change will not be provided.

Due to the nature of our business, we typically have only one copy of any given title at any given time. For that reason, we cannot provide exchanges.

We do our best to fully describe our inventory. Please refer to How We Rate and Describe Our Books HERE. Before books are shipped, we double-check to ensure our description is accurate. Any errors we notice will be brought to your attention before shipment. Mistakes sometimes unfortunately happen, though. In such cases, we request you first email us at tibooks@yahoo.com with your concerns before returning the book and also review the following information:

There is a restocking fee of 25% of the book's list price when books are returned simply because they are unwanted and were received undamaged by the customer.

75% of the book's list price will be refunded for undamaged, unwanted books.

Original shipping costs will not be refunded for undamaged, unwanted books.

Return shipping costs will not be refunded for undamaged, unwanted books.

Unwanted, undamged books MUST be received by us no later than fifteen (15) calendar days from customer's receipt date.

Unwanted, undamaged books MUST be returned to us in the same condition in which they left our store.

We STRONGLY recommend you wrap the book well for return shipping.

We STRONGLY recommend you include at least USPS Delivery Confirmation AND, if the book is particularly valuable, USPS Insurance on your return package.

Treasure Island Books will not be held responsible for uninsured packages.

If shipped TO the customer WITHOUT insurance, refunds for books returned ALSO WITHOUT insurance and received by us in damaged condition will NOT be made. Scans or photos of the damaged package and book will gladly be provided to the customer in such circumstances.

Refunds for books received by us in damaged condition will ONLY be made IF the customer insured the return package.

Refunds for returned books that are accompanied by insurance which arrive here in a damaged condition will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

100% of the book's list price AND the original shipping costs will be refunded for insured books SENT to the customer which were received by the customer in damaged condition.

Insured damaged books do NOT need to be returned to us.

If you choose to return the insured damaged book to us, we will not be responsible for the return shipping costs.

We go by the honor system here and trust that a customer is being truthful when they state a book has been damaged but we do appreciate that the damage be described.

Refunds are provided via Paypal unless the customer would prefer our company check, in which case there is no charge for the return postage.

We understand that sometimes mistakes happen. However, we feel it's fair for us to expect full payment when due for books ordered.

NSF checks will NOT be redeposited to our bank.

If the book has NOT been shipped, the customer is fully responsible for BOTH of the following:

Any fee which our bank charges us for the NSF check. Currently that's $10.00, but it's subject to change without notice, AND

our store's penalty fee for NSF checks per Oregon Revised Statute 30.701, thus: “Actions against maker of dishonored check; statutory damages and attorney fees; handling fee. (1) In any action against a maker of a dishonored check, a payee may recover from the maker statutory damages in an amount equal to $100 or triple the amount for which the check is drawn, whichever is greater. Statutory damages awarded under this subsection are in addition to the amount for which the check was drawn and may not exceed by more than $500 the amount for which the check was drawn. The court shall allow reasonable attorney fees at trial and on appeal to the prevailing party in an action on a dishonored check and in any action on a check that is not paid because payment has been stopped.”

If the book HAS been shipped, the customer is fully responsible for ALL of the following:

The full amount of the original payment due, AND

any fee which our bank charges us for the NSF check. Currently that's $10.00, but it's subject to change without notice, AND

Replacement cost and penalty fee payments MUST be made via Paypal or Money Order ONLY. No checks will be accepted.

Replacement cost and/or penalty fee payments MUST be received by us no later than ten (10) calendar days from the date we inform you of the problem.

Failure to comply with our NSF check payment request will result in legal steps being taken.

Counterfeit checks or money orders submitted to us will result in legal steps being taken.

Counterfeit payments made to Paypal will be handled by them.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The United States Congress passed legislation in August 2008 against merchants and libraries selling or lending children's books published BEFORE 1985 because of POSSIBLE lead content in the inks used to print the books. Therefore, Treasure Island Books is selling such books as COLLECTOR'S ITEMS ONLY FOR ADULT USE ONLY. It is the BUYER'S responsibility to supervise the use of such books around children, and Treasure Island Books assumes no legal responsibility thereof.
